Dear Friends,
Welcome to my newly updated home page.  You may have visited this site before.  It was established in October 2000 as a means for me to promote my desire for a greater awareness and appreciation for health consciousness.  I was the first Clinical Dietitian in the Middle East to go on the net and am dedicated to ensuring information on this site to be current and  reliable.
With the recent changes in needs of individuals from various sexes and ages, and the incredible advances in science,I saw a great need to re-design my site in a meticulous way, for it to be appealing to your taste and interests, and accommodated to the rapidly changing needs of individuals from both sexes & different ages.

We have entered an age of fast changes and extraordinary innovations in technology, science and medicine. Accordingly, our convictions about nutrition and health are constantly changing with new researches and discoveries.

As the old saying goes: “ you are what you eat “. No doubt, human nature is curious to know how healthy each kind of food he or she consumes and how their daily routine meals have an impact on their well-being, success, and happiness. Whether its the caloric content of food portions, the quality of the proteins we consume, the cholesterol and sodium levels of our favorite fast food cheeseburger, or even for the more sophisticated critic… the level of virtuous phytochemicals present in a tomato… there isn’t a person on this planet who can admit that one of these facts have never crossed his or her mind.  What they don’t know is that it only takes a tiny effort, general knowledge and common sense to choose your food wisely.

Unfortunately we are constantly misled by amateur individuals claiming to be “nutrition experts” who bombard us through advertisements, promotions & media appearances with their personal convictions and ideologies.  They portray their opinions as if they were universally accepted rules and guidelines. Inevitably, it is important for each person to keep up-to-date with the truths. Experimenting with these weird theories at the expense of your own health however, is not the suggested method for learning.  If you are in doubt, please don’t hesitate to contact me so I can help you sort out misconceptions or new diet means which may tempt you but can be harmful.

You don’t think nutrition is something you need to worry about?
You may be greatly mistaken.
For example, lets take an in-depth look at a person who consumes Middle Eastern foods.  Generally, you can be proud that Middle Eastern individuals are considered a population that traditionally possesses very healthy eating habits .   Moreover, nutraceutical science, which advocates “food is our medicine”, gives a lot of credit to the Mediterranean menu specifically because it is focused on a vegetarian base with lots of  green and colored fresh veggies,  cooked beans and grains, with a taste of virgin olive oil & to finish with a lightly grilled brochette  …. However, our increasingly active lifestyle obliges us to adopt fast eating habits and become more dependant on Western-style “take-out” and fast-food chains rather than good old traditional home-cooked meals (Mmmm…). We don’t have to remind ourselves that “health starts from the plate”. According to recent statistics, more than 50% of our modern age chronic diseases are due to unhealthy food choices. And yet, food is the simplest and least expensive of the means of preventive measures against these common illnesses, including coronary and liver ailments, high-blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, high uric acid levels and even some cancer types.

In recent years, the nutritional industry has finally begun receiving the recognition and authority it deserves. In October 2001 and throughout the American Dietetic Association’s conference in St. Louis, Missouri, all the 12,000 dietitians present were equally appreciated and labeled as “National Heroes” – we were given great credit in our contribution in the fight against the ever growing epidemic known as “Obesity”. According to the latest statistics in the US, overweight & obesity has increased from 30% in 1991 to 60% in 2001. Unfortunately, in the Arab world we have no precise statistics concerning the subject.  However, it is apparent with a quick glance at a marketplace or sidewalk that our new generation is too a victim of irregular eating habits, making us more susceptible to becoming overweight and even obese.

I modestly admit a website alone cannot cause heroic achievements to defeat global obesity!!!  But, with my skills, I am able to make available to you the latest research and correct professional assistance to guide and motivate each individual who is willing to make a few small sacrifices to achieve a desirable body weight.  Making a positive lifestyle change is a way of life, not just a temporary step.

Remember, it is never too late to make a change.  Little changes today will give a great feedback tomorrow. First let’s agree to start by simply decreasing excess snacking and fried foods.  Amazingly you’ll then realize how feasible it is to control excess smoking and soda-pop consumption. You’ll even begin to feel a bit crazy as you may have an urge to exercise.  What’s the big deal to exercise six or eight times a month?  A walk to the park here, Saturday morning jog there, before you know it you’ll be going to the gym twice a week after work.  Believe it or not, it’s really only the first step that’s the toughest, and eventually everything else will fall into place. So trust me, let me show you, and let us cross the “Healthy Lifestyle Journey” together!

How do we start?  Lets start with a quick test:

1.      Do you know what your BMI is? (No, not BMW, its BMI !!! )  Your BMI, or Body Mass Index is measurement that relates weight to height.  Higher BMIs are often an indication  to increased risk of Type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure or heart diseases.  Its an important factor to track.

2.      How about WHR? That’s your Waist-Hip Ratio.  This ratio calculates the relationship between your waist circumference and hip measurements.  With this number, you can identify whether you’re an "apple" or "pear" .

3.      Do you know how many calories you had for breakfast?  You may be unpleasantly surprised. Take a few minutes to add them up.  Just click on the Calorie Counter and maybe consider spending a few extra moments to calculate lunch!!!

4.      Ever wonder why sometimes you feel tired or lethargic?  Or what you can eat to help you keep your wonderful eyesight you have now for the next twenty years?  Do you have a clue what the recommended daily vitamins are for your body and what benefits they can provide? Visit the Nutritional Dictionary, which can provide a reference of essential nutrients and vitamins found in any  Vegetables or Fruit you eat.

If you didn’t have answers for any of the questions, don’t worry.  This is where I can help.  I have written a book just for you.  You can enrich your nutritional background through reading “Al Regime Al Sarih.” (The Fast Diet ).  You’ll find anything that crosses your mind in is explained in a completed, comprehensive and easy-to-read way.  You can obtain this nutritional guide in all bookstores and libraries in Arab countries, or on-line worldwide.

Last but not least, you can also scan different types of Diets, which I have integrated and regularly update on this website for your convenience.
